The values that define us
Community
Community is part our calling.
Jesus showed us that that we should be one, in the same way he and the father are one.
So we strive to be a community reaching out to our community inviting them into community.
Spirit Led
When Jesus ascended, He promised to send us the counselor. We are prayerful worshipers sensitive to, and led by the Holy Spirit!
We will work to be receptive to his voice and be obedient to his guidance and direction.
Biblical
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." - John 1
The bible is the authoritative word of God and the revelation of Jesus Christ our Savior. We will be a people who are grounded in the Word of God
Authentic
Genuine, Real, and Free
We're never just going through the motions, always leaning into our identities in Christ. Both individually and in relationships. Forgiven and Free!
Empowered
Jesus is for everybody
And we can join him in his work of redemption and reconciliation in this world. We take ownership in the great commandment and great commission!

Our call is to be a neighbor. We will seek to create spaces and maintain a culture that is welcoming to all.
Loving
Compassionate care and nurturing for all.
Without love we are like a noisy gong or clanging cymbal(1Cor11). The love of God is flowing out of us to those around us.
Evangelistic
The son of man came to seek and save the lost.(Luke19)
The gospel is the good news that Christ died for our sins
Generous
Giving and Serving abundantly
God has blessed us all with time tithe and talent. We want to be a people marked by our generosity in these areas.
Disciple Making
Growing and equipping believers:
Jesus us gave us the mission to make disciples. Baptising and teaching others to follow his way.

History
On April 24th 2011, the doors opened to the Galesburg campus of Northwoods Community Church. Initiated by several core families seeking to reach their friends, families, and neighbors. The hope of this church has always been to impact the galesburg area with spirit led worship and engaging teaching.
After 10 years the local pastors and the leadership of Northwoods saw an opportunity to not only to fulfill their vision of planting churches but to have a deeper impact in our community by transitioning the Northwoods Galesburg campus to The Ascent Church.
One thing that hasn't changed is our commitment to helping our community experience the love of Christ and grow in their relationship with him. Grounded in the word of God, led by the spirit, and lifting high the name of Jesus.
